Shifting Perspective: Housing as a Home, NOT JUST AN INVESTMENT

Currently Canada faces housing affordability challenges.  This may be due to housing being treated as an investment rather than a home.  As a result, homeownership costs remain high, and landlords have substantial rent-raising power.  Solutions include:

(1)  supporting non-market housing

(2)  using federal land for affordability housing, and acquiring more public land

(3)  Lowering production costs through measures like reducing developer profits

(4)  waiving fees

(5)  eliminating GST on rental housing

Other solutions include addressing Indigenous housing needs and setting specific targets for vulnerable groups.
